Donald Dolan, pianist

Donald Dolan has performed solo recitals at Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall and Merkin Concert Hall in New York City, as a winner of the Artists International Piano Award in 2002 and the Alumni Prize in 2004.  Mr. Dolan was a featured soloist with the Vanderbilt Symphony and the University of Michigan Chamber Orchestra, as a winner of their concerto competitions, and with the Nashville Symphony in a concert broadcast on Nashville public radio.  Internationally, he has performed at the Teatro Locarno in Switzerland, as a part of the Ticino Musica Festival.   In addition, he competed in the Jeunesses Musicales International Piano Competition in Belgrade, Serbia, and the Vianna da Motta International Music Competition in Lisbon, Portugal in 2003.  He was also a semifinalist in the 2005 National Federation of Music Clubs Competition in Austin, TX. 

In addition to concertizing and competing in the international piano competition circuit, Mr. Dolan is currently on the piano faculty of Westminster Conservatory in Princeton. He also taught piano for three years at Temple Music Prep in Philadelphia.  He accompanies soloists and choirs at Westminster Choir College, The College of New Jersey, Pennington Presbyterian Church in New Jersey, and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Yardley, PA.  In previous seasons, Mr. Dolan has served as accompanist for the Boychoir of Nashville, the University of Michigan Glee Club, the American Boychoir School, and Temple Music Prep Children’s Choirs.  He received degrees in piano performance from Vanderbilt University (B.M., summa cum laude) and The University of Michigan (M.M.).  Former teachers include José Ramos-Santana, Anton Nel, Craig Nies, Ana Berschadsky, and Elizabeth Salt.  He is currently a teaching assistant working on his doctorate in piano performance at Rutgers University's Mason Gross School of the Arts, studying with Susan Starr.
